July / August the HOT of Summer!

I am ready for some fall weather already! This time of year it becomes very hard to want to go out and check NestBoxes, fill Feeders with mealworms and most of all Weed Eat around all the poles, perches and benches.
These babies think I am one of the parents bringing them something to eat. At this age they react to sounds, when I open the door to check the NestBoxes.

The parents feed these little babies twice an hour each, so it is a busy task for the parents to just keep the babies feed. That is one of the big reasons we have Feeder Stations and feeders that we keep filled with dried mealworms. During the peck nesting months we feed them about 44 lbs of mealworms a month, which I order online for $230.00 with free shipping.

We still have about 45 days to go for this years nesting season. Through last week we have fledged 227 baby birds this nesting season. We have approximately 25 birds in the nest and about 20 more eggs still to hatch.

This may not we a record year, but it certainly will be a good year. Our record so far was 2016 at 293 birds fledged. Last year was a close second with 283 fledged. We have had a lot going on with the new Parkside Shopping Center and now the construction that is in progress for the new parking lot and new entrance off Old Hamilton Road.

New Stone Steps with Handrails, one of our recent Eagle Scout Projects that was completed during the month of June.

A second set of steps going up by the bees was built by the same Eagle Scout.

Be on the look out for our fall Walk and Talk Tour dates flyer to be published soon for Tours starting
in October for the General Public.
